Vim, Vigor, and Vitality

Hello everybody!

My mother is amazing. My mother has taught me different important lessons to survive life.  One lesson she always, always talked about was health is wealth.  When I was young,  I hated eating healthy. When I was a teen, I didn't understand. When I was first in college, I denied it.  Now 6 years later, I soak up all the knowledge she has to offer.  I am in love my body and how my body has the ability heal itself if given what it needs. So technically... I am Wolverine. Pretty cool.

So.  Now I am trying new methods to ingest cleaner foods that helps my body do what it needs to do.  I juice everything and anything to get a quick healthy dose of minerals and vitamins. I don't replace a meal with juice, I just drink some during my meals.  I've enjoyed tasting different fruit and veggie combinations and feeling the difference in my body.

Drinking carrots appealed to me when I found Live Food Juices by H. E. Kirscher, M.D. at my grandmas house;  a very short and to the point book explaining the health properties of different vegetables and fruits.  Check out a couple of pages from the book that. Notice how Kirscher has carrots in every recipe to cure ailments? Yeah I did too.

Carrots, apples and ginger is my go-to. I enjoy juiced carrots and ginger and drink that the most.

I really enjoy juicing.  At first, there was too much work to get one jar of juice.  Prepping the live food, juicing, then cleaning up would take close to an hour. But over time I have realized taking care of the body will take up my time. Just like working out, the only way to work out the muscles is to take time out of my day to work them out. Now I try to drink fresh pressed juice everyday.
 Happiness!

Planting Garlic

Hey everybody!

The end of October is the time to plant garlic! My father-in-law and I visited a Farmers Market in the middle of the summer to purchase some garlic that can grow in the Utah planting zone. Some garlic from the grocery might not grow in the yard due to the different zones. We got to talk to an amazing farmer and he explained to us the taste of each garlic and even explain the proper way to plant garlic! Gold mine!

So in late October, I began to scoped out the perfect location in the garden where garlic would succeed. I have a small garden with surrounding trees so my garden receives little light through-out the day.  I took into the account that next year I would till the whole garden and wanted the garlic to be out of the way for easy tilling. The garden would receive less sunlight in the winter as well  so I picked an area in the middle right.  That area receives about 6 hrs a day.

I love spending time in my garden with my cats meandering around me. So I was excited to spend a Sunday doing just that.

I split each garlic into separate cloves.

Then i dug a hole about 2 inches deep with a 4 inch gap between each garlic.  I created a bed of crushed leaves on the bottom of each hole for nutrition.

After all the leaves, snow, and time, how will I be able to find the garlic? I designed small posts to stick in the ground to mark where each garlic was buried. I used parts of the garlic outer skin and squished them in between tape with a stick. This was simple and quick.  There were a thousand different ideas i came up with but this was the quickest yet so very cute.

After I planted all garlic, I watered each hole and placed leaves all over the area. I am so excited to see how this turns out in the spring!
